High pressure pump FAQs

Answers to the questions customers ask us most about choosing, buying and running high pressure pumps and machines.

Buying and sizing

What does Riggers Pumps make?

We build high pressure triplex plunger and piston pump units and complete machines around them: vehicle washers, hydro jetting and hydro blasting machines, sewer jetting units, descaling and tank cleaning systems, hydro test pumps, UHP fire fighting units and the valves, guns, sensors and control panels that go with them.

Where are you located and which areas do you supply?

Our works are at 51/74 Pilliyar Kovil Street, Kanchinakuppam, Ambattur Industrial Estate, Chennai 600 098. We supply customers across India and in the Gulf, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, with machines dispatched from Chennai.

How do I choose the right pressure and flow?

Pressure (bar) decides how hard the jet hits; flow (LPM) decides how much area it clears and how well it flushes debris away. Car washing typically needs about 120–150 bar, truck and heavy vehicle washing 150–250 bar, and tube or scale jetting far higher. Tell us the job and we will size both.

What details should I send for a quotation?

Send the application, the pressure and flow you need (or the material you are removing), electric or diesel drive, available power supply, hours of use per day, fixed or mobile mounting, and any photos of the job or site. With these we can send an accurate technical offer.

Should I choose an electric or a diesel driven unit?

Electric units suit fixed installations such as wash bays, workshops and plant rooms where three-phase power is available; they are quieter and cheaper to run. Diesel units suit sites without reliable power, mobile work and outdoor jetting where the machine has to move with the crew.

Are your machines tested before dispatch?

Yes. Each unit is pressure-tested before it leaves our works, and the test is done at the pressure the machine is built for. Tell us if your project needs a witnessed test or test documentation, so we can plan it with the order.

Do you supply spares and accessories?

Yes. We supply unloader valves, pressure regulators, guns, lances, nozzles, hoses, sensors, solenoid valves and electrical panels, and can advise on the right spare for pumps and machines already on your site.

Can you build a custom machine for my application?

Yes. Many of our machines are configured to the job: pump size, drive, skid or trolley or truck mounting, tank and filter, accessories and control panel. Share your requirement and we will propose a configuration.

Vehicle washing

What is a vehicle washing pump?

It is a high pressure water pump, electric or diesel driven, that removes dust, mud, grease and road grime from vehicles. Riggers Pumps vehicle washers run from 100–250 bar depending on whether you wash bikes, cars, trucks or heavy equipment, and use less water than hose-and-bucket washing.

What pressure suits bikes, cars, trucks and earth movers?

As a guide: two wheelers 100–120 bar, cars 120–150 bar, trucks, buses and lorries 150–200 bar, and tractors, earth movers and construction vehicles 200–250 bar. Higher pressure is for heavy mud and underbody cleaning; lower pressure protects paint and delicate parts.

Electric or diesel: which is better for vehicle washing?

Electric pumps suit garages, detailing shops and fixed wash stations with stable power; they are quieter and cheaper to run. Diesel pumps suit outdoor washing, mobile cleaning, heavy vehicle yards and sites where electricity is limited. Both can be portable or trolley mounted, and automatic systems are also available.

Can one pump wash cars and heavy vehicles?

Technically yes, but results are better when the pump is chosen for the vehicle type. A car washing pump may lack the pressure and flow for trucks or earth movers, while a heavy-duty unit is more than a bike or car wash needs.

Which pump and motor brands do you use?

Our systems are built with triplex pumps from brands such as Annovi Reverberi, Bertolini, Hawk, CAT Pump and PFNL, and motors or engines from brands such as Crompton Greaves, Marathon, Havells, Kirloskar, Siemens and ABB, chosen to suit the application.

Hydro jetting and blasting

What is a hydro jetting machine used for?

A hydro jetting machine cleans tubes, pipes, tanks, drains and industrial equipment with high pressure water. It removes scale, sludge, grease and deposits from heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, calandrias and boiler tubes, without chemicals and from areas that are hard to clean by hand.

What pressure range do Riggers Pumps hydro jetting machines cover?

Our hydro jetting machines for tube cleaning cover 140–1400 bar (2,000–20,000 psi). Standard models include 7,000, 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 psi systems, and a 40,000 psi UHP machine is available for the toughest deposits. Tell us the deposit and tube size and we will suggest the model that fits.

Which hydro jetting machine suits heat exchanger tube cleaning?

Many heat exchanger jobs use 10,000–20,000 psi systems, with the right nozzle, lance and flow control. The final choice depends on tube diameter, tube length and how hard the deposit is. Send us tube ID and fouling type and we will recommend a model.

What pressure is suitable for boiler tube cleaning?

It depends on scale thickness and tube condition. Many boiler tube jobs use 10,000–20,000 psi, which removes scale effectively without unnecessary damage when the correct nozzle is chosen. Lighter deposits can often be cleaned at lower pressure. Share boiler type, tube size and deposit details for a recommendation.

What is a hydro blasting machine used for?

It removes rust, paint, scale, dirt and industrial deposits from metal surfaces, concrete, ship hulls, tanks, pre-heaters and heat exchanger tubes using high pressure water alone. No abrasives or harsh chemicals are used, which reduces dust and clean-up. Each model is offered with electric or diesel drive and trolley or skid mounting.

Is a hydroblasting machine the same as a water blasting machine?

Yes, the two terms usually describe the same equipment. Both use a high pressure pump and nozzle to clean, prepare surfaces and remove paint and rust with water. Hydro jetting is also used for the same technique, especially for tube and pipe cleaning.

Sewer and drain jetting

What is a sewer jetting pump used for?

A sewer jetting pump sends high pressure water through a hose and nozzle into sewer lines, drainage pipes, stormwater lines and blocked drains. The jet breaks up sludge, grease, debris and deposits, and the water flow carries them back towards the manhole for removal.

What pressure do I need for sewer jetting?

Riggers Pumps sewer jetting pumps work up to about 200 bar (3,000 psi), with individual series ranging from 75–150 bar to 100–200 bar. For most sewer work, enough flow matters as much as pressure, so choose pressure and flow together based on pipe size and blockage.

What flow rate is suitable for sewer and drain cleaning?

It depends on pipe size and the job. Lower flow, such as the HW series at 14–70 LPM, suits smaller lines and focused cleaning. Higher flow, such as the VA 57, KB and KD series at 129–265 LPM, suits larger sewer lines, municipal cleaning and heavy sludge removal.

Hydro testing

What is a hydro test pump used for?

It pressure-tests pipelines, boilers, cylinders, valves, hoses, castings and pressure vessels for leaks or defects. The component is filled with water or oil, pressure is raised slowly to a set point by a plunger pump, held for a set time, and then inspected for leaks or pressure drop.

What pressure and flow range do your hydro test pumps cover?

Riggers Pumps hydro test pumps range from 70 bar (1,000 psi) to 1400 bar (20,000 psi), with flow from 12 LPM to 445 LPM. Lower-pressure, higher-flow units suit filling and testing pipelines, while higher-pressure units suit cylinders, boilers and vessels.

Electric or diesel: which hydro test pump should I choose?

Choose electric for factories, workshops and indoor test areas with stable power; it gives steady, consistent pressure. Choose diesel for outdoor jobs, long pipelines, refinery shutdowns and remote sites where mobility matters and mains power is not available. Both can be trolley or base-frame mounted.

Which hydro test pump suits pipeline testing?

Pipeline testing usually needs enough flow to fill the line, then controlled pressure build-up and hold. Electric units suit fixed test sites; diesel units suit cross-country and field pipelines. The required pressure depends on the pipe specification and test standard.

Accessories and spares

Which high pressure pump accessories do you supply in Chennai?

Riggers Pumps supplies pressure hoses, trigger guns, nozzles and spray tips, lances and extension wands, foam cannons, surface cleaners, water filters, pressure regulators, quick-connect fittings, swivels, hose reels, pressure gauges, detergent tanks and safety gear. Accessories are matched to your pump's pressure, flow and connections.

Which spare parts are most commonly replaced on a high pressure pump?

The parts replaced most often are seal kits, unloader valves, gauges, fittings, trigger guns, hose assemblies and nozzle tips. How often depends on running hours, water quality, operating pressure and maintenance practice. Poor water filtration and running the pump dry are common causes of early seal wear.

Can I get a seal kit for my specific pump model?

Yes. Seal kits can be arranged for your pump model and application. To select the correct kit, share the pump brand, model number, pressure range and type of use. A photo of the pump nameplate is the quickest way to confirm the right kit.

Can you make custom high pressure hose assemblies?

Yes. We supply hose assemblies in different lengths, pressure ratings and end fittings to suit your requirement, including BSP, NPT, M22 and quick-connect ends depending on compatibility. Tell us the working pressure, length, fitting at each end and whether the hose will carry hot water.

Gulf supply

Which high pressure pump is suitable for hydro jetting in the UAE?

Use an electric pump for fixed jetting setups in plants and a diesel pump for mobile work across sites. For regular jetting of pipelines, drains and heat exchangers, 250–500 bar is commonly used; tougher blockages may need higher pressure. Share the line sizes and deposit type and we will recommend a configuration.

Which pump suits vehicle and fleet washing in the UAE?

An electric pump suits fixed wash bays at depots and logistics hubs, while a diesel pump suits outdoor or mobile washing. For cars and vans, 150–200 bar is usually suitable; for buses and trucks, 200–250 bar is commonly used. Flow rate matters too, as it decides how quickly mud and dust rinse off.

Which pump suits construction equipment cleaning in the UAE?

A diesel high pressure pump usually suits construction sites, because it works independently of site power. For excavators, loaders, cranes and mixers, 200–250 bar is commonly used. For hardened concrete, cement residue and tough deposits, 250–500 bar may be preferred.
